April Events at the Millvale Library!

April through May 7th, 3:00 PM: Code One Initiative

North Allegheny Intermediate High School’s Code One, a free-to-attend after-school program that teaches students the fundamentals of programming and computer science, will be hosting sessions at the Millvale Community Library this spring!

Sessions will be held every Tuesday between March 26th and May 7th from 3-5 PM.

The program will consist of peer-mentoring sessions between high school students and students. Students will start off by learning the fundamentals through drag-and-drop programming in Scratch, and will progress their way to learning Python.

April 6th, 1:00 PM: Spring Planting with Doug Oster

Doug Oster will be at the Millvale Community Library on April 6th to discuss seed starting and early spring planting. Oster is the editor of Everybody Gardens, and is an Emmy Award winning producer, television host and writer. He’s also co-host of The Organic Gardeners show on KDKA radio. April 9th, 5:00 PM: Whimsy and Whiskey in Downtown Pittsburgh

Join us at the Wigle Whiskey Tasting Room at the Omni William Penn Hotel for a fundraising cocktail event! Hosted by our amazing Friends of the Millvale Community Library!

April 10th, 6:00 PM: Small Business Resources 101

Learn how to find the right information to help you research a business, start your own business, create a business plan, and much more. This class will also cover free business databases available for use with your valid library card.

  • 6 PM: Refreshments served
  • 6:30 – 8:00 PM: Class

This event is part of our celebration of National Library Week. The class will be taught by Millvale Library Executive Director Susan McClellan.

April 12th, 10:30 AM: Beatrix Potter Storytime

Join Millvale Community Library and host Ann Troxel from the Beatrix Potter Society for a children’s story and playtime! She will be reading some of the most beloved books from the author. Peter Rabbit himself will stop by to play with the children as well!

April 13th, 5:00 PM: Poetry Fundraiser for the Millvale Library

April is National Poetry Month, and April 7th-13th is National Library Week! Support the Millvale Community Library by attending our 2nd annual poetry fundraiser. Admission for this event is $5. All proceeds will benefit our after-school meal program.

April 16th, 6:00 PM: PA PUC Consumer Education Night

This free, all-ages event is designed for community members to learn more about their public utility options and rights. Hosted by a representative from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), this night will cover info including:

  • Saving money & budgeting bills
  • Choosing between utility options
  • PUC’s oversight of PWSA & what that means to PWSA customers

April 20th, 11:00 AM: Cannabis Education Day

Learn about medicinal marijuana, CBD oils, hemp, laws and regulations relating to cannabis, and more with our collection of speakers, vendors, and other resources.

We will have talks on:

  • 11 AM: Growing and Community Engagement w/ PurePenn
  • 12 PM: Medical Marijuana 101 w/ Maitri Medicinals
  • 1 PM: Patient Registration Information w/ Solevo Wellness
  • 2 PM: Hemp Fabrics & Fashion w/ planetHEMP
  • 3 PM: Cannabidiol Pharmacology w/ Students for Sensible Drug Policy
  • 4 PM: CBD Beauty Products and live demo w/ RadRitual

Vendors include planetHEMP, Prime Wellness, & Solevo Wellness.

This is a free event. No registration is required.

April 23rd & 25th, 6 PM: Small Business Digital Media Workshops

This two-part workshop series is designed to help small business owners improve their online presence! Sponsored by the Mansmann Sharpsburg Business Owner Group.

These events are free. Childcare and refreshments will be provided.
